Yes, you read that correctly. A security guard, who was busy picking up cafeteria money, accidentally left a .38 revolver laying in the teachers restroom. This is an inexcusable lack of responsibility for a security guard assigned to any location, but especially in a Ft. Worth, Texas middle school.
Naturally, upon finding an extremely powerful handgun just laying in a bathroom, the school responded immediately. According to district spokesman, Clint Bond, “The school went into lockdown mode until the administration, principal, assistant principal, and police could figure out what happened.” To make this story even worse, the security company was contacted and confirmed that their security guards were not issued firearms.
This story raises many important questions. Regardless of whether the weapon was loaded or not, why would a school security guard bring their own personal gun into a middle school when they had absolutely no reason to do so? Why would a security company assign an individual to a school security department who is the type of person to just accidentally leave a deadly firearm laying in a building that’s completely filled with small children?
The truth is, we sometimes can’t predict the outrageous things a person is capable of doing. What’s important is that we do everything in our power to prevent these situations, and that we immediately respond to these emergencies when they do take place.
In a school security emergency situation, every second counts. Being able to trigger a lockdown during a potential threat via cloud computing can make all the difference in the world. Through the combination of hardware, software, and cloud services school staff can respond to security threats in real-time. This level of communication is vital to a schools security system.
