Milwaukee is proud to call itself the home of Irish Fest and so are we at DataComm Plus.
Unfortunately, Irish Fest’s old communications system stopped working just a few weeks before the festival. In fact we’re proud to say when members of the organization called us in a pinch asking for our help we jumped at the chance. We performed an emergency install after hours to insure that there was minimal down time for our new business partner. We got them back up and running in no time. Please come down and join in the Festivities at Irish Fest from August 16th-19th.
To promote and celebrate all aspects of Irish Culture and to instill in future generations an appreciation of Irish Heritage
That’s the Mission Statement of the Milwaukee Irish Fest and if you’ve lived in or around the area in the past thirty years you’ve probably heard of it. Since 1981 it’s continued to grow and prosper until it’s become a citywide celebration of Irish heritage, culture, music and dance. For four days all citizens become Irish and join in the merriment with verve and roiseadh mórtas.
So how did a festival celebrating all things Irish grow and thrive in a city with such strong Germanic roots? By celebrating all things family, friends, music and food. The festival promotes the Gaelic people of Milwaukee but with the same sense of kinship and history that all cultures enjoy. Oh, and the love of a good beer doesn’t hurt either.
The Irish Fest also established the Irish Fest Foundation to go beyond the four days of the festival and into the community, providing grants to organizations that support excellence in Irish music and drama. The foundation also reaches across the Atlantic to offer its resources to the people of Ireland. In the years since its inception the Irish Fest Foundation has provided a quarter of a million dollars to civic, cultural and educational organizations both here and abroad.
Ed Ward was the driving force behind the Irish Fest and when it premiered in 1981 it was accomplished by the tireless efforts of volunteers who succeeded beyond their wildest dreams. With a huge lineup of musical attractions, cultural programming, food and general fun the festival has grown and prospered and prompted the Smithsonian Institution’s National Folk Life program to call Milwaukee Irish Fest “the largest and best Irish cultural event in North America.”
